[19:05:52] Ina Centaur: meh
[19:05:56] Ina Centaur: usual. you?
[19:06:17] Ji Ni: Was at a cool law lecture in a university sim
[19:06:25] Ina Centaur: ?
[19:06:27] Ji Ni: on internet privacy
[19:06:33] Ji Ni: was kinda neat
[19:06:40] Ina Centaur: rockcliff?
[19:06:46] Ji Ni: yep
[19:06:57] Ina Centaur: cool, anything of note?
[19:07:11] Ji Ni: no surprises really
[19:08:03] Ji Ni: What chapter are we on?
[19:08:24] Ina Centaur: 13..
[19:08:31] Ina Centaur: the meadow. shiny edward chapter
[19:09:10] Ji Ni: yay shiny edward!
[19:10:35] Ina Centaur: meh
[19:10:40] Ina Centaur: did you get to read eudeamon btw?
[19:10:52] Ji Ni: no, not yet
[19:11:18] Ina Centaur: oh you might like it..
[19:12:00] Ji Ni: that ws the one you linked in im yesterday?
[19:15:03] Ina Centaur: yup
[19:16:46] Ji Ni: still so few people come, that is bizzare
[19:18:07] Ina Centaur: yep. well, i'm guessing the literary crowd think this is for kids.. and RP'ers don't really care that much about discussing a book?
[19:19:04] Ji Ni: thats gay
[19:19:35] Ji Ni: and not in the good way :)
[19:20:21] Ji Ni: so this is the chapter where he tries to explain to bella how it sux to be a vampire?
[19:21:13] Ji Ni: glowy skin, cant go to picnics....he's all strong, is a predator? and she should run away
[19:21:35] Ji Ni: then they end up snuggling in the meadow at the end
[19:21:37] Ina Centaur: lol yeah basically
[19:21:51] Ina Centaur: well it starts with him letting her trace the veins on his arm..
[19:22:34] Ji Ni: hehe
[19:22:45] Ji Ni: and the recurring theme of him being marble
[19:23:10] Ina Centaur: yep. also the alaska chapter
[19:23:40] Ji Ni: is this the first time they snuggle?
[19:28:13] Ina Centaur: i think so..
[19:28:36] Ina Centaur: dunno, i'm finding it difficult to read the novel so slowly - even for a close reading
[19:29:37] Ji Ni: hehe
[19:29:57] Ina Centaur: seriously tempted to unofficially let eudeamon or something else hijack this literary series
[19:30:08] Ina Centaur: lol.. unofficially though.
[19:30:18] Ji Ni: meyer says on her website that this chapter has the meadow scene related to her dream
[19:31:19] Ji Ni: I woke up (on that June 2nd) from a very vivid dream. In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately. For what is essentially a transcript of my dream, please see Chapter 13 ("Confessions") of the book.
[19:33:26] Ji Ni: jasper was originally named ronald lol
[19:33:28] Ji Ni: eww
[19:35:10] Ina Centaur: lol
[19:35:19] Ina Centaur: yeah this is basically the dream tha got her to write the book
[19:35:26] Ina Centaur: everything evolved from this chapter
[19:35:35] Ina Centaur: writing-wise at least
[19:37:23] Ji Ni: i wonder why she would have it be chapter 13
[19:37:35] Ji Ni: is that unlucky, or is she wiccan?
[19:37:57] Ji Ni: or maybe it just happened that way hehe
[19:38:46] Ina Centaur: hmm lucky 13
[19:38:58] Ina Centaur: not necessarily superstitious.. just a lucky number in general?
[19:39:45] Ji Ni: hrm...se dosent seem to say anything about that
[19:39:59] Ji Ni: Edward in the sunlight was shocking. I couldn?t get used to it, though I?d been staring at him all afternoon. His skin, white despite the faint flush from yesterday?s hunting trip, literally sparkled, like thousands of tiny diamonds were embedded in the surface. Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 13, p.260
[19:40:45] Ji Ni: hrm his skin is made of high density buckyball chains!
[19:41:13] Ina Centaur: !
[19:41:26] Ji Ni: just speculating on the skin again
[19:43:57] Ina Centaur: http://book1.twilightsl.com/2009/02/02/inaugural-meeting-sci-why-sparkle-skins/
[19:47:42] Ji Ni: wow, im on the net :)
[19:48:37] Ji Ni: not a bad theory eh?
[19:48:57] Ji Ni: although i think they might still not be strong enough
[19:49:04] Ina Centaur: hum.. i think it's insightful
[19:49:12] Ina Centaur: ?
[19:49:47] Ji Ni: maybe if it was denser carbons, diamond is one....
[19:50:13] Ji Ni: arranged in buckminister-fuller structures then it may well be incredibly strong
[19:50:25] Ji Ni: but they arent that flexible
[19:50:40] Ji Ni: hrm...
[19:50:43] Ji Ni: ah well
[19:57:15] Ina Centaur: well i'm thinking about what might spontaneously cause a change like that
[19:57:30] Ina Centaur: the mechanism that transforms normal skin into that structure..
[19:58:57] Ji Ni: ya for sure
[19:59:32] Ji Ni: most processes that ratchet up the carbon chain involve tremendous heat and pressure
[20:00:49] Ji Ni: i think to keep a complex biological organism intact through that it would have to hapen very slowly
[20:01:06] Ina Centaur: yes..
[20:01:39] Ina Centaur: hmm i wonder if the burning effect of the transformation is due to some heat/pressure fx
[20:01:39] Ji Ni: then the heat can dissipate without damaging local cell structures that havent changed yet
[20:01:54] Ina Centaur: supposedly 3 days
[20:01:54] Ji Ni: could be hehe
[20:02:14] Ina Centaur: spreading ultimately to the heart - to stop it..
[20:02:39] Ji Ni: ya thats the tricky part
[20:03:00] Ji Ni: so what then provides a circulatory system
[20:03:31] Ji Ni: is it local tissues 'swimming' the fluid along, similar to the digestive system
[20:03:53] Ji Ni: or similar to plants
[20:04:50] Ji Ni: it really is something hard to speculate on, it would require such a complete change in biological function to fit the picture
[20:05:31] Ji Ni: i can see why the pentagon would want to get their hands on one
[20:06:13] Ji Ni: even more bizzare is the suggestion that there can be hybrids, like bella's daughter
[20:06:50] Ji Ni: to have such radically different systems in the same organism is unlikely
[20:07:28] Ji Ni: maybe its micromachines :)
[20:07:41] Ina Centaur: hmm have you ever thougt about bioengineered vampires..
[20:07:45] Ina Centaur: forget myths and supernatural stuff..
[20:08:17] Ji Ni: sure, but why make them dependendt on blood
[20:08:28] Ji Ni: id rather model off of photosynthesis
[20:08:43] Ina Centaur: lol micromachines... maybe time travel occured to carry those back in time to create the first vamps o.O
[20:08:55] Ina Centaur: hmm solar energy isn't the most efficient
[20:09:05] Ina Centaur: but photocells can power calculators though..
[20:09:22] Ji Ni: well ya, aliens left some micromachines behind that 'infected' certain humans, their inherent function to repair cell damage etc...
[20:09:23] Ina Centaur: dunno would photosynthesis in animals require cellulose or plant-like stuff?
[20:09:42] Ji Ni: i think it would
[20:09:57] Ina Centaur: .. also makes them crave blood and changes their eye color and stops their heart and turns their skins ice-white... except if they're black, and i think they stay the same color O.o
[20:10:18] Ji Ni: trippy eh?
[20:10:29] Ji Ni: crazy aliens
[20:11:18] Ina Centaur: lol
[20:12:10] Ina Centaur: hum so you think sunlight could give sufficient energy/efficiently?
[20:12:40] Ina Centaur: dunno.. kinda like how meat gives you more energy.. if you go on a veggie diet you're basically kind of in a swoon the whole day
[20:13:01] Ina Centaur: (in RL.. so i imagine meat gives more energy.. )
[20:13:44] Ji Ni: hell ya, photosynthesis is very efficient
[20:14:09] Ji Ni: our solar cells are only a pale pathetic simulacrim
[20:14:19] Ji Ni: although they are getting better
[20:15:00] Ji Ni: and solar energy per square meter blows away any chemical source
[20:15:32] Ji Ni: except perhaps atomic energy which is basically what sunlight is
[20:16:00] Ina Centaur: hmm..
[20:16:06] Ina Centaur: sun-powered car?
[20:16:22] Ji Ni: its only a matter of time
[20:17:10] Ji Ni: knew at any moment it could be too much, and my life could end ? so quickly that I might not even notice. And I couldn?t make myself be afraid. I couldn?t think of anything, except that he was touching me. Bella Swan, Twilight, Chapter 13, p.276
[20:17:19] Ji Ni: aww :)
[20:18:05] Ina Centaur: yeah, lots of that innocent cheesy romance
[20:18:11] Ina Centaur: really liked/loved/craved it the first time through..
[20:18:26] Ina Centaur: but i think.. the fact that i was reading it upside down, almost... the first time, might have been it
[20:19:46] Ji Ni: upside down?
[20:21:08] Ina Centaur: kinda packing up to move out, so bed is basically just a mattress on the floor. bending down to floor while reading the entire series, head kinda tilted down
[20:21:27] Ina Centaur: so, had a physical source of a swoon for giddiness
[20:21:40] Ji Ni: lol cool
[20:23:40] Ina Centaur: lol.. what state where you in when you read twilight in rl?
[20:23:59] Ji Ni: i was on the bus for most of it
[20:24:11] Ji Ni: so maybe that motion had an effect
[20:25:01] Ina Centaur: did you try re-reading it?
[20:25:03] Ina Centaur: or just once
[20:25:15] Ji Ni: havent got it back yet
[20:25:21] Ji Ni: and i prolly wont
[20:25:37] Ji Ni: and im not sure im keen on re-buying it just yet
[20:25:53] Ji Ni: think id rather spend money on something new like the stackhouse books or something
[20:25:56] Ina Centaur: interestingly you can re-sell it for more than you paid for it on amazon..
[20:26:12] Ji Ni: lol
[20:26:16] Ina Centaur: yup.. i'm not sure if twilight is something good to re-read multiple times..
[20:26:32] Ina Centaur: and yeah - ebay prices for twilight books at least in december were more expensive than amazon!
[20:26:52] Ji Ni: well i re-read Dune right away, and its certainly meatier....and still got bored
[20:27:26] Ina Centaur: yeah dune is different though.. it's an epic fantasy, lots more details
[20:27:40] Ji Ni: for sure
[20:27:45] Ina Centaur: i guess twilight has details that i forgot the first time through.. but it just isn't as magical the second-time through..
[20:27:56] Ina Centaur: not sure if it's because i'm not reading it while in giddy mode though..
[20:28:30] Ji Ni: hehe i suppose you can rig that
[20:30:02] Ji Ni: i'm gonna head out
[20:30:10] Ina Centaur: kk. tc!
[20:30:22] Ji Ni: cya tomorrow :)
