Chat on : [19:00:28] Ina Centaur: wow! [19:00:35] Ina Centaur: hehe and i thought *i* was twilight obsessed ;-P [19:01:06] Aleksei Cortes: /ao off [19:01:08] Ina Centaur: hi! [19:01:09] evillee Alecto: I went to the theater to see it, and got a copy on my laptop...I've watched the movie over and over. my husband thinks i'm obsessed... [19:01:16] Aleksei Cortes: Hello. [19:01:17] Bram Volitant: Hullo. [19:01:43] Bram Volitant: Oh there you are. [19:01:55] Ina Centaur: Welcome to Twilight Book 1 Chapter 2 Discussion! http://book1.twilightsl.com [19:02:29] Aleksei Cortes: /me pets his cat [19:02:38] Aleksei Cortes: Will other people be arriving? [19:02:54] Ina Centaur: maybe... [19:03:23] Ina Centaur: we could get started now though - they can catch up on the chat transcript later.. [19:03:53] Bram Volitant: /me nod nods. [19:04:13] Object: Touched. [19:04:26] Ina Centaur: So, Chapter 2... it's almost mysterious why Bella seems to react so strongly to Edward's apparent dislike of her [19:04:45] Ina Centaur: It pretty much ruined her day in Chapter 1... but yet she misses him in Edward's week of exile [19:04:48] Aleksei Cortes: She's a teenager and she doesn't like rejection. [19:05:05] Ina Centaur: True, she seems to want to blend in - and be like other people [19:05:21] Ina Centaur: except, she admitted in chapter 1, she never felt close to people her age... [19:05:26] evillee Alecto: she was the only one that [19:05:30] Ina Centaur: "(paraphrase) as if she had a glitch in her brain" [19:05:40] evillee Alecto: Edward had singled out... [19:05:54] evillee Alecto: even just with the evil stares he gave her that day. [19:06:35] Ina Centaur: Edward's reaction to her adds a sort of bittersweet suspense.. [19:06:51] Ina Centaur: it's kind of stereotypical to paranormal romances [19:07:05] Ina Centaur: the male lead starting at odds with the female.. or the other way around [19:07:23] Ina Centaur: but, i dunno.... it feels special already [19:07:29] Ina Centaur: -- i find it at least ! [19:07:33] Aleksei Cortes: How many girls whose scent was overpowering to him had he met before? \ [19:07:53] Nakaima Oh: Surely, Bella is the first. :) [19:08:29] Aleksei Cortes: Really? [19:08:34] Ina Centaur: supposedly.. [19:08:43] Ina Centaur: i think in Meyer's vampire mythos, each vampire has one mate [19:08:54] Ina Centaur: so everyone in the Cullen's - all paired up 'cept for Ed [19:08:59] Nakaima Oh: The way the romance works, I think, is that she is something he never would have expected, something that knocks him out. [19:09:03] evillee Alecto: they find their soul mate...if they had a soul [19:09:51] evillee Alecto: that's something that edward doesn't believe, and he can't believe that he's affected so much by bella. [19:09:51] Ina Centaur: i think meyer vampires have souls.. unlike joss whedon vampires... [19:09:53] Nakaima Oh: they may have souls in this world [19:10:01] Ina Centaur: yes, i think edward believes he's soulless... [19:10:10] Ina Centaur: but then - why do you think he reacted to Bella like that? [19:10:29] Bram Volitant: Well it was a chemical reaction. [19:10:38] Nakaima Oh: i think she is a totally new experience for him [19:10:40] evillee Alecto: she's sis 'singer' [19:10:50] evillee Alecto: *his [19:11:26] Nakaima Oh: ao off [19:11:26] EW Animations Female AO: Your EW Animations AO in now OFF [19:11:30] Bram Volitant: Well they described other people who had that sort of scent for vampires, and it didn't end up well for them. [19:11:48] Bram Volitant: They were fed on, not fell in love with, if I recall. [19:12:00] evillee Alecto: plus, where Edward can't hear Bella's thoughts, it makes ithat much more mysterious for him. that much more potent. [19:12:25] Ina Centaur: hmmm [19:12:27] Ina Centaur: i don't recall that... [19:12:36] Nakaima Oh: Yes! It would be wierd if your boyfriend could read your mind. [19:12:36] Bram Volitant: Yes, that's her special power. [19:12:37] Ina Centaur: yes, i think edward is mystified that he can't read Bella [19:12:41] Ina Centaur: yeup [19:12:59] Ina Centaur: but i mean, i don't recall other people who liked vampires, and their having a bad fate - mentioned in the book? [19:13:05] evillee Alecto: towards the end of the 2nd chapter, he keeps saying that he can't read her, that she' very dificult to read.\ [19:13:08] Bram Volitant: Though I don't know, for me that worked less. She's a regular teenager, she doesn't have as many unique thoughts as one would think would create some sort of mysterious nature. [19:13:29] Ina Centaur: (btw, Meyer's interpretation for Edward's reaction would probably be along the lines of: [19:13:30] Bram Volitant: I would think with his knowledge of human nature she would still be fairly predictable. [19:13:35] Object: Touched. [19:13:36] Ina Centaur: he can't really resist her, and yet he wants to attempt to be good [19:13:52] Ina Centaur: basically he wants her but can't have her. .. so he takes time off drives off to Alaska and repents [19:13:53] Nakaima Oh: There is the mystery of her klutziness. It like we are waiting to find out how she is special. [19:14:15] Ina Centaur: book 5 - supposedly from Edward's pov starts with the first chapter with Ed's POV of that first sight [19:14:36] Ina Centaur: (it's on her website - but she's putting the project off for now) [19:14:46] Bram Volitant: Be nice to get into his head a little bit more, didn't think we did enough through the books. [19:14:48] Nakaima Oh: He wants her as romance and as lunch. The conflict between the two are nicely done, I thought. [19:15:21] Nakaima Oh: I haven't looked at B5. You can see it from her web site though. [19:15:35] Nakaima Oh: :) lag [19:15:44] evillee Alecto: Midnight sun, it's called, hopefully she'll finish it. [19:15:46] Ina Centaur: bram, i don't think the novel is more about bella being special... in fact, i think bella's normality (and her *normal* self-conscious belief that she's an outsider) helps the reader relate to her [19:16:35] Bram Volitant: That's understandable, that's part of the reason I liked her as a character, she was likeable, she didn't act up, she didn't have a sense of entitlement as most teens have. [19:16:36] Nakaima Oh: I think it's mostly a hint in B1 [19:16:44] Ina Centaur: do you think Edward flees from her because of how he wants her for romance... or lunch? [19:16:52] Bram Volitant: I just think that for me the mind reading thing was less of a factor as the chemical reaction thing. [19:16:58] Ina Centaur: that is.. is Edward a Puritan out of necessity or virtue [19:17:09] evillee Alecto: he leaves because he doesn't want to be a monster. he doesn't want to let Carlisle down. [19:17:15] Ina Centaur: (iirc, Meyer vamps have venomous teeth!) [19:17:28] Nakaima Oh: cool :) [19:17:47] evillee Alecto: he can't relish the thought that he can easily kill Bella... [19:17:59] evillee Alecto: he's lived over 80 years without killing anyone. [19:18:02] Ina Centaur: yes, but is it his natural predator-relation to humans... or his romance for her... that he believes is monstrous? [19:18:13] Ina Centaur: (romance - that he believes could only lead in death for her.) [19:18:36] evillee Alecto: he can't stand the fact that he would so easily kill everyone in the class just to have her. [19:18:54] Nakaima Oh: I think in the beginning he is smitten and confused and trying to be "good" about it [19:18:56] evillee Alecto: he hasn't accepted the fact that he had fallen in love with her yet. [19:19:51] Ina Centaur: do you think Alice saw that? [19:20:04] Ina Centaur: --before his leaving.. [19:20:14] Nakaima Oh: Interesting question. [19:20:27] evillee Alecto: Alice saw two visions... [19:20:35] evillee Alecto: one was Bella as one of them. [19:20:56] evillee Alecto: The other was Edward with the red eyes, and Bella's lifeless body. [19:21:04] Ina Centaur: (later in the book, a minor joke among the cullens would be whether Ed would return Bella... by then Alice had seen otherwise, o'course) [19:21:05] evillee Alecto: Edward couldn't bear that. [19:21:12] Ina Centaur: oh yes.. [19:21:30] Ina Centaur: are they two divergent futures? [19:21:48] evillee Alecto: All that he knows is that he can't stay away from her. [19:22:12] evillee Alecto: he still doesn't admit to himself until later in the book that he is in love with her. [19:22:29] Nakaima Oh: It would be a major plot problem from a technical standpoint if Alice were always right. [19:22:39] Ina Centaur: yes, interesting twist of conflict... Bella's personal problem in Chapter 1 was that this boy hates her (and she feels strongly about that)... but now... [19:23:02] Ina Centaur: well, there's also Meyer mythos.. that the future can be changed to an extent [19:23:13] Ina Centaur: so sometimes Alice only sees possibilities.. [19:23:32] evillee Alecto: But, where Alice's visions are subjective, once Edward admited to himself that he loved Bella, the future that Alice saw was no longer possible. [19:23:39] Nakaima Oh: yes, useful both philosopically and for the narrative [19:24:36] evillee Alecto: What is your take on the electric current that is felt between Edward and bella? [19:24:41] Ina Centaur: hmm, but Edward's conflict is that he still often sees himself as a danger to Bella though... [19:24:58] Nakaima Oh: love [19:24:59] Ina Centaur: --and i think that conflict survives until the middle of book 4... [19:25:28] Nakaima Oh: yes, almost to the end, I think you are right, Ina [19:25:43] Ina Centaur: when i first read it, i thought it had something to do with Meyer vampire mythos. it's common for pararom to describe an ecstatic/unusual feeling when male/female leads first touch [19:26:12] Nakaima Oh: Or just romance in a way. [19:26:29] evillee Alecto: But it's not just first touch...it's every time they're near each other. [19:26:30] Nakaima Oh: You get a little sparky whoops! when he touches your hand. :) [19:26:31] Ina Centaur: hehe nakaima.. and New Moon is basically about Edward's taking the negative belief (that he's a danger, and an unnatural one to bella)... and leaving Bella [19:26:47] evillee Alecto: it definitely something between just the two of them [19:27:40] Ina Centaur: hmm [19:27:45] Ina Centaur: i think it fades away eventually.. [19:28:08] Ina Centaur: they eventually embrace and kiss.. and he gives her piggyback rides all the time [19:28:17] evillee Alecto: Not that i noticed...even in book 4, after she's turned, Bella still feels the current when they touch. [19:28:18] Ina Centaur: (constant electric shock might not allow for either of those!) [19:28:22] Nakaima Oh: Not in these books, though. The depth of her devotion is both awe inspirig and scary by the end [19:28:35] Ina Centaur: oh hmm [19:29:09] Ina Centaur: i wonder if the other vamp mates have that among each other, too [19:29:25] evillee Alecto: not sure, it never really goes into depth on any other relationship [19:29:31] Ina Centaur: if that's part of vamp mythos - or just something edward / bella [19:29:42] Nakaima Oh: It seems like Alice could but probably with a lot more joking around :) [19:29:46] evillee Alecto: all I've read is that they still feel like first love, even after centuries together. [19:30:21] Nakaima Oh: And bett4er clothes [19:30:22] Ina Centaur: yes, very pararom [19:30:26] Ina Centaur: lol [19:30:51] Ina Centaur: hmm but wasn't it only carlisle who's survived more than a century [19:31:07] evillee Alecto: yes, but that's how Edward describes it... [19:31:09] Ina Centaur: edward was the first he turned.. but that's way in the early 1900s [19:31:15] Ina Centaur: ah yes.. [19:31:29] evillee Alecto: Actually, jasper was 'born' before Edward. [19:31:30] Nakaima Oh: He found some of the others if I remember right [19:32:03] Nakaima Oh: Most of them "seemed" older than Edward [19:32:34] Ina Centaur: oh yes.. jasper was from the civil war [19:32:52] evillee Alecto: Carlisle created edward in 1918, Esme after that, then Rosalie, then Emmett in 1935. [19:32:53] Ina Centaur: he and alice aren't turned by carlisle [19:33:20] Ina Centaur: yup [19:33:47] Aleksei Cortes: /me picks up his cat...."Places to go, gentlemen. It was lovely." [19:33:55] evillee Alecto: Alice didn't have a past, and didn't know when she was turned, exactly, and yes, jasper was in the late 19th century. Although Alice and jasper didn't find Carlisle and the other Cullens util the 40's or 50's [19:34:04] Ina Centaur: (tc aleksei..) [19:34:26] Ina Centaur: yup [19:34:30] Nakaima Oh: bye aleksei [19:34:38] Ina Centaur: we'll find out more about alice's past later in book 1 though [19:34:39] Aleksei Cortes: /ao on [19:35:03] Ina Centaur: hmm then again, have you both finished the entire series? [19:35:15] Nakaima Oh: I have. [19:35:23] evillee Alecto: 3 times by book, twice on audio [19:35:24] Ina Centaur: cool. [19:35:29] Nakaima Oh: I just saw your notice and thought I'd popo in :) [19:35:36] Nakaima Oh: pop [19:35:44] evillee Alecto: plus the excerpt that meyer put up on her site. [19:35:52] Ina Centaur: i've read the series.. not thrice yet though. [19:36:06] Nakaima Oh: She is getting so much crit on the books, I thought there would be hecklers. :) [19:36:09] Ina Centaur: was enamored by it.. but doing a close reading - starting to love it less... so far [19:36:23] evillee Alecto: I read extremely fast...the first time i read it, i had all 4 books completed in a week. [19:36:26] Ina Centaur: amazingly, the disc's have been very serious so far! [19:36:37] Ina Centaur: yeup me too. couldn't stop reading till i finished the entire series [19:36:41] Nakaima Oh: There are many problems writing wise -- but there are just so many interesting things going on [19:37:08] Ina Centaur: yes, if you're into vamp stuff.. meyer's vamps are largely derivative [19:37:11] Nakaima Oh: I read her adult novel The Host too [19:37:13] evillee Alecto: it was written for a teen populus...her first adult theme book is Host [19:37:17] Ina Centaur: but i dunno.. i still love twilight anyway :-D [19:37:28] Ina Centaur: oh have you read host yet? [19:37:38] Nakaima Oh: Yes [19:37:42] evillee Alecto: it's a more romantic take on the whole vamp idea. [19:37:47] Nakaima Oh: Also a very interesint love story [19:37:52] evillee Alecto: yes, I read host...had it done in a day and a half. [19:38:22] Nakaima Oh: One of things I like about myrs is that she is not agfraid to be sentimental [19:38:49] Ina Centaur: i'm going to read it soon.. i wasn't impressed by the summary though.. seemed derivative again. (aliens that control your minds.. hmm.. remember that teen series - animorphs?) [19:39:00] Ina Centaur: (or.. that trilogy about the tripods by what's his name..) [19:39:04] Nakaima Oh: True but it's not like that [19:39:18] Nakaima Oh: The interesting part is a three way love story [19:39:25] Nakaima Oh: with two of the parts in one body [19:39:41] Ina Centaur: yes i think that's how meyer makes her way even with derivative mythos [19:39:52] Ina Centaur: the way people really get into her love stories.. [19:40:21] H3 Turbo: hi hi hi [19:40:22] Nakaima Oh: I could really identify with bella, espc when she fallds down and stuff :) [19:40:27] Ina Centaur: (hi) [19:40:42] Ina Centaur: oh... hehe she could have been very sentimental for the first sight chapter.. [19:40:51] Ina Centaur: i like how the relation between them is at first a mystery [19:41:05] Ina Centaur: not like "oh i saw him, my heart pounded, and i blushed and omg i was just totally madly in love with him at first sight" [19:41:10] Nakaima Oh: the relationship with Jake is good too [19:41:15] Ina Centaur: (edited of course... but similar melodramatic effect) [19:41:21] Nakaima Oh: :) [19:41:30] evillee Alecto: it's interesting too, how bella can't help but tell Edward her whole life story. [19:41:49] Ina Centaur: it's the trust between true lovers [19:42:01] CANE with script 111: Shield active. [19:42:04] Nakaima Oh: or the mesmerizing vampire :) [19:42:04] Ina Centaur: genuine love rather! [19:42:15] Nakaima Oh: look into my eyes. . . . [19:42:20] evillee Alecto: she explains it later as being dazzled by him...she can't help but tell him what she thinks [19:42:34] H3 Turbo: what is this all about here? [19:42:57] Ina Centaur: (h3, we are having a discussion about Stephenie Meyer's Twilight, Book 1.. Chapter 2 ... http://TwilightSL.com) [19:43:38] Ina Centaur: evillee, do you see an analogue between that and your typical non-vampiric romance? [19:44:57] Nakaima Oh: It a way it is the story of meeting your perfect soul mate -- actions and reactions are bigger than life [19:45:54] Ina Centaur: lol, is edward similarly bedazzled by her though? [19:45:59] evillee Alecto: I'm not sure how the other vamp novels have portrayed that, I haven't really read the others, just seen the movies...and they take a lot out of the movies. [19:46:12] Ina Centaur: kind of unfair that he has that vampiric beauty advantage and Bella doesn't.. [19:46:27] Nakaima Oh: I think edward is similarly bedazzled [19:46:28] Ina Centaur: (hehe maybe that adds to another reason why he doesn't want to turn her) [19:46:32] evillee Alecto: I think it' smore that he's mystified by her...he tries so hard to figure out what she' sthinking [19:46:35] Nakaima Oh: in his own way [19:46:40] Ina Centaur: (then again, he doesn't see much of his vampiric graces.. seeing himself as abhoringly unnatural..) [19:47:15] Nakaima Oh: There is less of the whinny vampire in Meyers [19:47:36] Ina Centaur: whinny vampire? [19:47:46] Nakaima Oh: In fact by the end it's pretty glorious as the drag down elk and stuff [19:48:12] Nakaima Oh: Oh, I mean often it's like boo hoo I'm a vampire and have to live for ever be super strong never have to work etc etc [19:48:18] Ina Centaur: well, in Anne Rice mythos, there's a non-transparency between vamp and maker... interesting that in Meyer's, it's only a special case with Bella/Edward [19:48:32] Ina Centaur: (it is pretty cool how it develops into a shield) [19:49:03] evillee Alecto: she has always had her power (shield) [19:49:15] evillee Alecto: even her father's thoughts are muffled for edward. [19:49:16] Nakaima Oh: In fact, one of the best lines in the movie they made of dracula (bram stokers draculat I thinki it was called" was "Look what god did to me." [19:49:39] Ina Centaur: (edward does work a bit... and meyer's vamps not just live forever - they *never* sleep! :-O [19:49:57] H3 Turbo: didn't read it [19:50:01] Ina Centaur: like edward actually got several degrees etc... he tries to be human-ish?) [19:50:10] Nakaima Oh: No wonder they get cranky [19:50:56] Nakaima Oh: It does seem sort of awful to never be able to get away from yourself as we do with sleep [19:51:03] Ina Centaur: hmm i think edward could read charlie... [19:51:24] Ina Centaur: or i remember him telling her what to expect when she returns... [19:51:27] Ina Centaur: home [19:51:37] evillee Alecto: it hadn't bothered edward until he met Bella...only then did he wish that he could sleep, so that he could dream of her as she dreamed of him. [19:51:57] Nakaima Oh: Oh, yeah. I remember that now eville [19:52:13] evillee Alecto: in the 5th, edward explains that he hears Charlies' tone, not his thoughts. [19:52:37] evillee Alecto: he could tell that he was worried, after the accident, but couldn't actually hear what he was thinking. [19:52:52] Nakaima Oh: I've been avoiding the 5th since it got away from her before she could finish it. I wonder how that happened? Seems like a huge blunder. [19:53:00] evillee Alecto: he thought that if he could figure out Charlie's thoughts, that it would give him the key to Bella's\ [19:53:20] Ina Centaur: is there more released of the 5th than the first chapter? [19:53:30] Ina Centaur: (and that's cool.. that means meyer might turn charlie vamp too!) [19:53:34] Nakaima Oh: I think the whole thing is there [19:53:39] Ina Centaur: wow! [19:53:50] Ina Centaur: .. somehow i only found the first chapter on her site though [19:53:51] evillee Alecto: it stops at the chapter before the big sun reveal. [19:53:52] Nakaima Oh: I haven't actually looked. Evillee? [19:54:04] evillee Alecto: Charlie isn't turned. [19:54:32] evillee Alecto: he only has the 'need to know' story, the public story. [19:55:13] evillee Alecto: The 5th book is really good, it really shows what Edward is thinking. I wish she would do each book from Edward's prospective. [19:55:22] evillee Alecto: it would just finish out the whole story. [19:55:36] Nakaima Oh: Interesting idea. I bet she could sell them. [19:55:52] Nakaima Oh: She may be tired of them buy now, though. [19:55:55] evillee Alecto: Of course it's not the whole story yet, hopefully, she'll finish it. She's tabled it indefinitely for now. [19:56:05] Ina Centaur: oh, i mean, charlie might eventually be turned. (yes, i know books 1 thru 4 - bella's the only one turned) [19:56:21] Ina Centaur: big sun reveal? [19:56:29] evillee Alecto: I don't think she's tired of them. i don't think she had plans to go futher with the story, either. [19:56:39] Ina Centaur: why do you think she put the words "the end" at the end of book 4? [19:56:48] Nakaima Oh: I love the scenes after Bella changes when she is running and jumping and chasing down food [19:56:48] Ina Centaur: i mean, the danger of the vultari is certainly not yet over.. [19:56:57] evillee Alecto: When Edward shows Bella what he looks like in the sun. her trip to seattle, that they change. [19:57:04] Ina Centaur: she holds her nose to avoid ravaging on that one camper.. [19:57:05] Nakaima Oh: I get the feeling she may be done with it, Ina [19:57:12] Ina Centaur: lol when i first read it , i thought it would be jessica or mike [19:57:26] Ina Centaur: (that might be too much deux ex machina though!) [19:58:03] evillee Alecto: I think that because Bella had prepared for her turning, she knew what to expect. not only that, but her love for Edward was more powerful than anything, even her thirst [19:58:04] Nakaima Oh: I wouldn't have minded if she ate a few of those friends [19:58:14] Ina Centaur: oh it would be lovely to see edward's thoughts in the "big sun reveal" [19:58:16] evillee Alecto: that put her in more control. [19:58:50] evillee Alecto: I was amazed when I first read it...it really gives insight on how he feels, and also what he is thinking. [19:59:06] evillee Alecto: it completes the story, imo\ [19:59:15] Ina Centaur: yes, like what that one vultari guy said - almost as if bella were born for vampirism... [19:59:18] Nakaima Oh: well, you are wearing me down, evilee. I guess I'm going to have to go look again. :) [19:59:47] Ina Centaur: her very pale skin - aside from looking more perfect , i guess she doesn't change much appearance wise [19:59:48] evillee Alecto: I keep looking back to her site to see if she's working on it again. I hope that she does finish it. [20:00:05] evillee Alecto: she's no longer clumsy. [20:00:19] evillee Alecto: edward had said that she was graceful, even for a vampire. [20:00:24] Ina Centaur: yes and vampirism helps develop that glitch in her brain into a cool power [20:00:40] evillee Alecto: like totally opposite from her human life. [20:00:49] Ina Centaur: yeup and incredible newborn strength when she beats emmet in armwrestling ;-D [20:00:50] Nakaima Oh: It's what we klutzy girls all want -- to be so graceful and powerful. :) [20:01:07] Ina Centaur: grow up klutzy. die and become graceful/powerful :-D [20:01:14] Nakaima Oh: :) [20:01:17] evillee Alecto: and jumps so much further than Edward on their furst hunt [20:01:58] Ina Centaur: lol she almost crushed him the first time she hugged him after she'd been turned [20:02:12] Nakaima Oh: Well, I must move on. Will you be doing this again, Ina? Posting it in search? [20:02:18] Ina Centaur: kinda cute to have edward become the more fragile one ;-D [20:02:19] evillee Alecto: yes, she made him say ow\ [20:02:40] Ina Centaur: yup, daily for the entire month, nak! http://TwilightSL.com [20:02:55] Nakaima Oh: Cool. I'll try to make some of them. [20:02:56] Ina Centaur: 7pm m thru sat.. 3 pm on sunday's - a chapter a day, except for sunday - which is general [20:03:14] Ina Centaur: yup btw feel free to sign up for an account on the blog [20:03:21] Ina Centaur: and post your thoughts of each chapter! [20:03:28] evillee Alecto: we've gone a bit beyond the second chapter here, oops! [20:03:29] Nakaima Oh: I'll go look later this eveing. [20:03:45] Ina Centaur: hehe we are i guess. [20:03:59] Ina Centaur: did you read chapter 2 again right before btw? [20:04:06] Nakaima Oh: Yes, I suppose we should watch for spoilers when we don't know if people have finished [20:04:23] Ina Centaur: oh, i don't think any of us here are twilight virgins ;-P [20:04:35] Nakaima Oh: No, obviously not tonight. :) [20:04:39] evillee Alecto: i just looked at it, I just started reading the series again. I'm reading this series (for the 4th time) and also the outlander series by diana gabaldon. [20:05:10] Ina Centaur: oh, i met diana last year on SL. interesting person [20:05:25] Ina Centaur: hmm well chapter 2 has less to discuss than chapter 1.. [20:05:33] Ina Centaur: there are some interesting details, and some advances in character development [20:05:35] Nakaima Oh: Well, must be off. See you Ina. Nice meeting you evillee [20:05:41] evillee Alecto: really? that's cool. I've read her books multiple times as well. [20:05:47] Ina Centaur: but i think the main thing is that bella's personal conflict has evolved [20:06:02] evillee Alecto: she can't seem to get Edward out of her thoughts. [20:06:15] evillee Alecto: she looks for him every day, [20:06:19] Ina Centaur: found it interesting that their email exchange was segmented out. [20:06:26] Ina Centaur: almost to make sure you can't miss it [20:06:39] Ina Centaur: lol - her mom seems rather childish [20:06:43] evillee Alecto: what e-mail exchange? [20:06:53] evillee Alecto: from her mother? [20:06:56] Ina Centaur: "hi, honey, i can't find my blouse. do you know where i put it?" [20:07:03] Ina Centaur: "if you don't email me back, i'm calling __!" [20:07:08] Ina Centaur: hehe yes, in chapter 2 [20:07:25] Ina Centaur: that's when we get to know her mom a bit better -- and also what she meant when she said she took care of her mom... [20:07:31] evillee Alecto: yeah. Bella explans it later that her mother said that she was born middle aged. [20:07:38] Ina Centaur: just a few short email exchanges conveyed all that. [20:07:41] Ina Centaur: rather brilliant [20:08:19] evillee Alecto: also Bella's explanation to Edward that her mom was unhappy staying with her, that she wanted to be with Phil. [20:08:39] evillee Alecto: and that phil make her feel younger. [20:08:45] Ina Centaur: yes, i found it odd Edward didn't understand why [20:08:51] Ina Centaur: i dunno - for someone so old, he seemed naive.. [20:09:20] evillee Alecto: He hasn't been interested in someone the way he's interested in Bella before. [20:09:59] evillee Alecto: in the 5th, he explains that his love was that of a soldier's life, and that if he hadn't gotten sick with the spanish flu, he would have joined the army, [20:10:17] evillee Alecto: he didn't relate to anyone at the level he's relating to bella [20:10:42] evillee Alecto: and it's all new to him. So yes, I guess you could say he's neieve. [20:11:05] Ina Centaur: yet, he can read people's thoughts though.. [20:11:08] Ina Centaur: after decades of that.. [20:11:20] Ina Centaur: he still can't understand these everyday sacrifices people make [20:12:07] evillee Alecto: even though he can read the thoughts of eveyone around him, he tunes them out. their thoughts seem childish to him. [20:12:26] evillee Alecto: he only listens to them to see if someone has 'found them out'. [20:12:34] Ina Centaur: edward, arrogant.. yes.. but generally not prone to showing off [20:12:36] evillee Alecto: to give his family time to move. [20:12:44] Ina Centaur: yup [20:12:58] evillee Alecto: he wants to impress bella, though. [20:13:11] evillee Alecto: he's very protective of her.... [20:13:18] Ina Centaur: i guess he's not into personal drama... at least not until after bella? - lol, he was listening in on the wolves later on, commenting on how they had an interesting soap opera going on [20:13:36] Ina Centaur: yes, he sees her as very fragile.. [20:13:43] evillee Alecto: bella has made him feel alive again. [20:13:49] Ina Centaur: i dunno, i guess edward has to be naive to an extent.. for him to do what he did @ the start of new moon [20:13:53] Ina Centaur: (horrible!!! :-O) [20:14:21] evillee Alecto: he was only trying to protect her. or so he thought. [20:14:35] evillee Alecto: I liked how she would risk her life to hear his voice in her thoughts. [20:14:56] Ina Centaur: yes that part was unexpected.. [20:15:07] Ina Centaur: as if a very dire addiction... [20:15:20] Ina Centaur: but wonderful, too [20:15:36] evillee Alecto: she had to believe that he still cared for her, even thought he told her that he didn't. [20:15:37] Ina Centaur: -- i dunno, if bella did die while doing something crazy like that, in a way, the reader would feel satisfied [20:15:51] Ina Centaur: it's kinda a reverse vengeance @ edward for his ditching her [20:16:30] Ina Centaur: it's amazing how little self-esteem bella has though.. [20:16:34] evillee Alecto: well, i hate to say it, but it's getting late. [20:16:38] Ina Centaur: that she justified his reasons for dumping her on their difference in appearance [20:16:55] Ina Centaur: herself as being unworth next to supermodel edward [20:17:18] evillee Alecto: that was something that she never got over...she was always hung up on that, up until he came back at the end of new moon. [20:17:54] evillee Alecto: it was great talking to you... [20:17:55] Ina Centaur: love their reunion.. [20:18:01] Ina Centaur: that whole scene in italy ;-P [20:18:05] Ina Centaur: hehe yup likewise! [20:18:27] evillee Alecto: yes...I can't wait to see what the next movie does with that whole scene. [20:18:29] Ina Centaur: good night - and drop by again if you'd like! [20:18:49] Ina Centaur: yes, i'd love the set for the next movie!! [20:19:06] Ina Centaur: probably lots of CG for that whole crowd of italian's on their celebration day or whatever [20:19:10] [SLDonate] DarkGlass Tip Bin: Thank you for your donation, evillee Alecto! [20:19:33] Ina Centaur: thanks:-) [20:19:35] evillee Alecto: i'll try to come by again. Thank you! [20:19:38] evillee Alecto: np! [20:19:42] evillee Alecto: see ya [20:19:42] Ina Centaur: np - i'll put transcripts up on the website [20:19:51] Ina Centaur: and my thoughts for chapter too.. http://book1.TwilightSL.com [20:19:59] Ina Centaur: (you're also welcome to post to the blog too!) [20:20:02] evillee Alecto: cool, I'll finish the chap 1 discussion on the site later, too! [20:20:09] Ina Centaur: tc, gn! [01:14:56] Paavo Vespucciano: mites tää huuto toimii [01:15:03] Paavo Vespucciano: TARZAN [01:15:18] JayJay Cyberstar: minne asti huuto kuuluu? [19:06:58] Ina Centaur: i'm coming! [19:07:10] Ina Centaur: hi! |
